Life isn’t that complicated.
We tend to complicate things in order to create a class system that helps us hide our insecurities but at the same time, inflict ourselves with stress.
We spend our lives trying to keep up rather than living it.
Think about it… who made up all these rules of life? Man did !! mostly for selfish interest.
Sometime in 1991
(singing) Let’s talk about sex, baby.
let’s talk about you and me,
let’s talk about…
before I could finish the song, I received the most resounding slap of my life!!!
“ Who taught you to sing that bad song” ( that was my cousin)
The pain didn’t compare to the shame I felt.
I was ” caught ” singing about ” bad ” things.
For days, I prayed that I wouldn’t be reported to my mum.
I didn’t want her to be disappointed in me… Continue reading
I’m not one to make new year resolutions but after reading Habakkuk 2:2,
I decided to.
” And the LORD answered me:
Write the vision, make it plain on tablets so he may run who reads it.”
So, these are my Top 5 resolutions.
1. Be Happy and laugh More:
scientist say that, when we laugh, endorphin are released through out our body. These endorphin stimulate our muscles, nerves, organs and tissues. Studies show that this helps to relieve pain and stress, thereby promoting the function of the immune system. Continue reading
Writing my exams were hard!!! I had severe pain in my pelvis.
This wasn’t the first time but mum would normally just give me pain killers.
This time, it was excruciating and I was taken to see Dr. Brown.
Before now, he had advised that I stopped exercising vigorously. I did.
On this particular visit, I was made to lie down on my back with my knees bent and my feet on a pair of stirrups. This was the most embarrassing experience of my life.
I was diagnosed with having an imperforate hymen. My mum was informed that a minor surgery would be required to resect my hymen to relieve the obstruction of my blood flow. Continue reading
Hi guys !
It has been (151) One Hundred and Fifty-One days since I put pen to paper.
I got several messages asking, “why?”
I really haven’t been able to give any tangible answer but today I figured it out!
I TURNED MY HOBBY INTO A JOB Continue reading
“My Naija boy” was all bruised.
… that was his worse experience in life and next to that was the taste of Dr. pepper.
He got my parents’ consent and nothing else mattered.
The wedding would hold during the summer.
Nigerian Traditional wedding in Akure and
Christian wedding in Kansas…
… Phase Six
The days that followed were hectic. Not because of the work involved in planning a wedding but because everyone seemed to believe that they had the right to make choices for me.
I’m “Oyibo” but I definitely know how I want to look on my traditional wedding day. No one can imagine how many traditional wedding pictures I had on my laptop. Continue reading
Yes, life can be cruel sometimes …
… and in this festive season, I have had to sit and reflect on the ups and many downs of 2016. Continue reading
“Good afternoon sir” I said
“Good afternoon my dear ” (with a stern expression)
“Tayo has just informed me of his intention to marry you”
“ You are a foreigner and I’m sure you don’t understand what you are getting into”
“Marriage in Nigeria is serious business”
“I understand that, sir”
“A Nigerian wife has responsibilities”
“Can you cook?” (I thought it was a rhetorical question)
“My dear! Can you cook?? (with his voice raised)
I stuttered a “Yes Sir” I actually couldn’t cook but Tayo’s dad scared me at this point.
I wasn’t sure if my inability to cook would end a marriage that hadn’t even started.
I told a couple more lies out of fear …
“ A LOT of Kids?! Why would I want “A lot of Kids??
Wearing “iro” and “buba”? OMG!!! That wasn’t even as scary as being married to the Omotosho family …. He explained that in Nigeria, family didn’t ask for permission before visiting and staying in a hotel wasn’t even an option…
I finished my meeting feeling ruffled as I walked towards Tayo…
… Phase five
I was definitely unnerved by my meeting with “papa Tayo”
(that’s what everyone called him)
I could barely eat my Jollof rice …
Meeting the Omotosho’s didn’t go as smooth as I had envisaged and next was our visit to the Watsons’ (my folks) Continue reading
There are things I wish I could go back in time and advise myself about.
One of such advice would be ASK FOR HELP.
I honestly don’t know where I got the impression that mothers don’t get tired of tending to their kids. I thought it was “unmotherly” to admit that I didn’t feel like bathing, feeding or being all so motherly. I thought it meant I was irresponsible.
I was determined to live up to my mothering ideals and do EVERYTHING perfectly.
And since “perfect” is an unattainable feat, I kept running my marathon on a treadmill… Never reaching the finish line of perfection. Continue reading
If you went to visit a wealthy uncle and he gave you money.
Not just a bundle of it but BUNDLESSSSssss and informs you that you can always come for more.
Two or more things would happen:
- You would return with your favorite friends and family first.
- You would run wild and tell anyone that cares to hear how your fortune has changed.
- You could be discrete but your life style would definitely change.
Even when you decide not to spend a kobo of your wealth, your perspective of life would have changed.
This is the exact reason why the gospel of Christ increased and multiplied.
It was and still is FREE AND GOOD Continue reading
